Skoda Auto a.s., sometimes abbreviated as "Skoda," is a Czech automotive manufacturer with headquarters in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic. It was founded in 1925 as a successor to Laurin & Klement. In 1948, SKoda Works was acquired by the state.

In 1948, Skoda Works was acquired by the state. After 1991, the German Volkswagen Group steadily privatized it; in 1994, it became a partly subsidiary, and in 2000, it became a completely owned subsidiary.

Skoda vehicles are marketed in more than 100 countries, and in 2018, total global sales grew by 4.4% to 1.25 million units. In 2017, the operational profit increased by 34.6% to €1.6 billion, or operating profit. After Porsche, Skoda has the second-highest profit margin of all the Volkswagen AG brands as of 2017.
