SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile, a joint venture between General Motors and SAIC Motor, is the owner of the Chinese automaker Baojun.

In order to compete with current GM brands Chevrolet and Buick, which are also sold in China, the Baojun branding was created in 2010. The company's goods are in direct competition with those made by local Chinese producers including Chery, Geely, Changan, Haval, and Trumpchi.

The Baojun 630, a four-door sedan that has been made by the brand since November 2010, is its first model.

Through a dedicated dealer network, sales began in the latter part of 2011.

The joint company also sells the Baojun Lechi, a localized variant of the Daewoo Matiz/Chevrolet Spark. At Auto China in 2014, a third model (the Baojun 610) was unveiled. In 2015, the business unveiled the Baojun 560 SUV at Auto Shanghai. And SAIC-GM-Wuling debuted the 730, a seven-seat MPV, in July 2014.

Baojun model sales have risen sharply since their launch, hitting 688,390 units in 2016 and 996,629 in 2017.

The 2.49-meter-long, electrically-powered Baojun E100 was initially exclusively offered in Guangxi starting in August 2017. It has a wider range and has been accessible throughout China since June 2018.

In May 2018, the Van Baojun 360 went on sale.

The 530, a 4.66 meter long SUV, has been available from Baojun since June 2018.

The Baojun E200, an electrically driven microcar, has been available for purchase in China since September 2018.

The fourth SUV from the company, the Baojun RS-5, debuted in November 2018 at the Guangzhou Auto Show.

The Baojun RC-6, based on the RS-5, was released in June 2019.
