London EV Company: Revolutionizing Urban Mobility
Introduction to London EV Company The London EV Company (LEVC), formerly known as The London Taxi Corporation, is a British automotive manufacturer renowned for its iconic black taxicabs. Headquartered in Ansty Park, Warwickshire, England, LEVC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Chinese automaker Geely. The company has transformed from a traditional taxi manufacturer into a modern electric vehicle company, focusing on sustainable urban mobility solutions.
Historical Journey LEVC's roots can be traced back to 1908, when the company began its journey in the professional taxi trade. Over the years, the company has built vehicles with an unrivaled blend of performance, functionality, and craftsmanship. In 2013, Geely acquired the assets of Manganese Bronze Holdings, the parent company of The London Taxi Corporation, and rebranded it as the London EV Company in 2017.
Geely's involvement in British taxicab production began in 2006, leading to the creation of a China-based taxicab manufacturing joint venture. In 2013, Geely rescued part of the business and established its own taxicab production company. The joint venture, Shanghai LTI Automobile Components Co Ltd, produced the TX4, a licensed London Black Cab, in Fengjing, Shanghai, and exported semi-complete knock-down kits for assembly in the UK.
Iconic Models LEVC's lineup includes several iconic models that have defined the brand's legacy:
TX4: The classic London Black Cab, known for its durability and reliability.
LEVC TX: Launched in 2017, the TX is a range-extended electric taxi that combines a petrol engine with an electric motor, offering a total electrically-driven range of more than 300 miles.
LEVC VN5: An electric van introduced in 2020, designed for green logistics with a range-extender technology.
Modern Developments LEVC has continued to innovate and expand its product range. In 2022, the company marked the sale of its 7,000th TX globally, with 5,000 TX taxis sold in London alone. The TX has helped reduce urban emissions and has been successful not only in London but also across the UK and overseas, with growing demand from taxi operators and ride-sharing services in Germany, France, Switzerland, Denmark, the Middle East, and Japan2.
