Designer and businessman Henrik Fisker, former GM vice-chairman Bob Lutz, and businessman Gilbert Villarreal formed the firm. The initials of their last names were used to create the firm name.

Their debut model, the Destino, which was based on the Fisker Karma, was on show in 2013 at the North American International Car Show in Detroit.

During the North American International Car Show in 2016, they unveiled the Force 1, an American sports vehicle with 745 horsepower.
