Groupe Renault (UK: "REN-oh," US: "rnlt, rno," r-NAWLT, r-NOH, Founded in 1899, the French multinational car company [up up], also known as the Renault Group in English and officially recognized as Renault S.A. In addition to a variety of automobiles and vans, the business also makes autorail vehicles and has in the past produced trucks, tractors, tanks, buses, and coaches.
Renault was the ninth-largest manufacturer in the world by manufacturing volume in 2016, according to the Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d'Automobiles. The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance overtook Toyota as the largest light car manufacturer in the world by 2017.
The Renault group, which has its headquarters in Boulogne-Billancourt, close to Paris, consists of the South Korean Renault Korea Motors, Alpine, Renault Sport (Gordini), Automobile Dacia, and the namesake Renault brand. In order to aid them with their financial issues, Renault sold off a 1.55% ownership in Daimler AG of Germany in early 2021. Renault also holds a 43.4% stake with multiple votes in Nissan of Japan. (Since 2012, Renault has produced the engines for Daimler's Mercedes-Benz A-Class and B-Class vehicles, and it is also solely responsible for the Mercedes-Benz Citan van's production.) Additionally, RCI Banque (automotive finance), Renault Retail Group (automotive distribution), and Motrio are owned by Renault (automotive parts).Oyak-Renault (Turkey) and Renault Pars are only two of the joint ventures that Renault owns (Iran). Renault is 15% owned by the French government.
Since 2001, Volvo has included Renault Trucks, formerly known as Renault Véhicules Industriels. 2008 saw CLAAS, a German maker of agricultural equipment, acquire 100% of Renault Agriculture. As a result of Russia's escalating invasion of Ukraine, Renault is selling its shares in AvtoVAZ to the Russian government.
Eight electric cars received a combined €4 billion (US$5.16 billion) investment from Renault and Nissan over a period of three to four years beginning in 2011. Through December 2019, the company has sold more than 273,000 electric vehicles globally since the commencement of the Renault electric program.
Renault is well-known for its involvement in motorsport, especially in Formula 1, Formula E, and rallying. In the history of computers, its early work on mathematical curve modeling for vehicle bodywork is significant.
