Lord Swraj Paul launched Caparo in 1968.
In October 2015, the group's sixteen firms were placed into administration, allowing three to carry on with business as usual.
Sanjeev Gupta, the CEO of Liberty House Group, revealed a month later that his family had acquired a portion of the company from the administrators. One of the three solvent divisions of the company that had carried on with operations, Caparo Merchant Bar, was acquired by Liberty House from the administrators in 2017. Although CMB had maintained its financial stability, its capacity to grow had been constrained by its affiliation with a pension plan of its previous parent company. Various more transactions by the administrators resulted in the sale of many firms within the group, which led to the loss of employment.
