Auburn

From 1900 through 1937, Auburn was a brand name for American cars. It is most known for the fast, upscale, and costly Auburn Speedster vehicles that it manufactured. However, with the 1929 Wall Street Crash and the ensuing economic slump, sales of Auburn's pricey automobiles—along with those of its equally pricey sibling marques Duesenberg and Cord—inevitably declined. As a result, all vehicle production ceased in 1937.

The former Auburn Automobile Co. merged with the Central Manufacturing Company after a 1940 bankruptcy reorganization to form Auburn Central Manufacturing (ACM) Corporation, which received a significant amount of production work for World War II. As a result, in 1943, they changed the name of ACM to American Central Manufacturing. Manufacturing the bodywork for at least three quarters, or around 500,000, of the World War II Willys and Ford 1/4-ton jeeps, was one of their most important accomplishments.
