Sterling

Austin Rover Cars of North America (later renamed Sterling Motor Cars), a branch of the Rover Group corporation of the United Kingdom, sold cars under the name Sterling in the United States. From 1987 through 1991, Rover worked in conjunction with Honda of Japan to sell it in North America. The Sterling 825, Sterling 827, and a limited-edition Sterling Oxford Edition based on the 827 were the models that were sold.

Sterling

The 800 series, a rebadged Rover 800 series with modified specs for the North American market, was the only Sterling model to be produced. The Sterling was only offered in North America with a V6 gasoline engine.

Only the sedan body styled 825 (trims S or SL) was available in 1987 and 1988. Along with the addition of a new, bigger Honda engine in 1989, the hatchback was also made available. In 1989, the new 827 models were offered in S, SL, SL Limited, or SLi trims. In 1990, S, Si, SL, or SLi trims were offered. In 1991, Si or SLi trims were offered.
There were additionally 350 limited edition Oxford Editions on the market in 1990. The Oxford Edition, which was based on the Sterling 827 SL sedan, incorporated additional luxury/convenience features, including as a built-in mobile phone, and enhanced the inside décor.
